In 1948, as Jeju Island is swallowed by state violence, a 6-year-old girl wanders the forests beneath Hallasan, robbed of her voice. Her mother, A-jin, searches for her through a treacherous landscape where soldiers are ruthlessly crushing opposition to the country's partition.

On October 15, 2003, in a quiet autumn day at a high-rise apartment. Hwang Ga leisurely waters the plants on the balcony. At the same time, Hyung-min, a man in his sixties, lives in an old house on the outskirts of the city.  As the local news on TV announces the confirmation of the "Jeju 4·3 Incident Truth Report," the two elderly men reminisce about their similar yet distinctly different pasts.  The first independent film from Jeju Island.

This is the story of Sook-ja (Moon Hee-kyung), a female diver in the beautiful Jeju Islands who has lived a tough life, and her childish son Yool (Yeon Joon). Young man Yool dreams of becoming a writer. One day he discovers his mother, Sook-ja, has terminal cancer, but she refuses to get treated and continues diving in the water. Yool gives up his dreams as a writer and goes to his brother-in-law to ask for a job just so he can change his mother's mind. One evening, Yool comes home drunk and upset. Sook-ja can't bear the sudden pain and wakes up her drunken son.

Trapped in routine, a Jeju poet finds himself drawn to a boy—and to emotions he’s never dared name.

South Korea, 1998: While the country moves closer towards democracy, Young-oak remains at odds with his female-connotated name while attending a boy's school where the air is thick with testosterone. The young man is struggling to fit in and find a new name among corrupt teachers and the teenagers' violent power games, which are as subtle as they are extreme. Behind his mother Jeong-sun's seemingly unflappable exterior, a past long repressed is reemerging, which she is reluctant to face. Yet confrontation is unavoidable – and it leads back to the national tragedy surrounding the Jeju Uprising of April 3rd, 1948.

They are two different people but can communicate in English. Their conversation enables them to face the most important memories in their lives.

Over one lonely and severe winter night, Ye-sun finally picks up her phone to make a call.

Five years after the all-out war between the Sanno and Hanabishi crime families, former yakuza boss Otomo works in South Korea for Mr. Chang, a noted fixer. When tensions rise between Chang and the Hanabishi, and Chang's life is endangered, Otomo returns to Japan to settle things once and for all.
