A film about homes on both sides of an ocean.

The Kabyle people define themselves first and foremost through the spoken word. Every gesture, every moment of their daily lives can give rise to a language of verse, metaphors, and proverbs. After all, isn't it said that in the mountain foothills they call home, verbal dueling was a common pastime? It is a reality difficult to visualize when one looks at the immigrant society where these men and women—often illiterate—are relegated solely to the roles of manual laborers and housewives; one can hardly imagine the eloquent orators they become when they return to their native tongue.

Nelson is a miniature pig—at least, that’s what the Verbeek family were told when they bought him as a cute little piglet. But seven years and 500 kilos later, Nelson has become a big problem. The neighbors and the housing association think it’s unacceptable to have such a large and smelly animal in a residential neighborhood. Son Brandon is being bullied at school because of his pet.

Switzerland still carries out special flights, where passengers, dressed in diapers and helmets, are chained to their seats for 40 hours at worst. They are accompanied by police officers and immigration officials. The passengers are flown to their native countries, where they haven't set foot in in up to twenty years, and where their lives might be in danger. Children, wives and work are left behind in Switzerland. Near Geneva, in Frambois prison, live 25 illegal immigrants waiting for deportation. They are offered an opportunity to say goodbye to their families and return to their native countries on a regular flight, escorted by plain-clothes police officers. If they refuse this offer, the special flight is arranged fast and unexpectedly. The stories behind the locked cells are truly heartbreaking.

The director recounts her experience of being forced to become a mother to twins at the age of twenty-two. This context reinforces her feelings of inferiority and inadequacy, amid her difficult journey between the strange circumstances and the injustice of the bias surrounding her. This cinematic work reveals the richness of emotions and the complexity of experiences as they grow in a society that strictly imposes gender roles.

Four migrants share their experiences about living in Georgia for the past several years.

In the polyphony of voices, a search for home unfolds. What is home? What is its purpose? Is there anything bigger than home? What are the sounds, colours, and smells that let it live in our memory? The collective and the individual is expressed through the voices of those who lost it in the Russian war in Ukraine. Associations, memories, meanings: four letters, four hundred things between them — home.
