EB Films presents a documentary on the life of the freight train in America.

Tommy’s Train is a story about imagination, drive, and the power of a dream. Once existing as a tourist attraction in the city of Anacortes, Washington, Tommy Thompson’s Railway ran every summer from 1987 until 1999. The genuine steam locomotive and coaches were all hand built by Tommy in his garage workshop, and he maintained and operated the railway with his family.

In the first half of the 20th century, America's railroads were radically
transformed by the innovation of gargantuan steam locomotives.
Pushed by the need to haul ever longer and heavier trains, the nation's
locomotive works responded with the invention of awe-inspiring articulated
engines. In this riveting program, journey back to the
golden age of steam for an up-close look at these legendary locomotives. See
the Union Pacific's famed "Big Boy" in action and ride the rails of the
Chesapeake & Ohio and Norfolk & Western railways. Meet the men who
drove engines like the Allegheny and Yellowstone, and visit the museums
and yards where the largest steamers ever built remain preserved in time.
THE HISTORY CHANNEL' proudly presents this rollicking
retrospective, sure to set any rail fan's heart pounding

Know in full all about the particularities of this rail ride that has been enchanting thousands of passengers for over a century. In this trip it is difficult to distinguish who plays the main role: whether the Railway or the Nature. The Paranaguá - Curitiba Railroad is one of the largest engineering works in the world, with 110 km (68 mi) of tracks including 13 tunnels, 30 bridges and several wide span viaducts. In the course of the trip, what is easily perceived is the beauty of the scenery when crossing the Serra do Mar, considered a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Volume Two features trackside SEPTA electric action at Pennsylvania locations including Glenside, Elkins Park, Melrose Park, Fern Rock, Daylesford, Paoli, and Malvern. Many Silverliner IV MU's are seen along with former PRR Silverliner III, and former PRR and RDG Silverliner II equipment. The MU's have been painted into an attractive rainbow paint scheme recently adopted by SEPTA. In addition, SEPTA's AEM7 electric locomotives are seen pulling Bombardier push pull train sets as well as Amtrak Genesis diesels powering Keystone Service trains. Filmed and narrated by Tim Hosey in April 2001; edited by Nick Lipka

Neil Oliver describes the worst ever railway accident in the UK, which happened a hundred years ago on 22 May 1915, in which three trains collided at Quintinshill near Gretna Green. One of the trains was a troop train taking soldiers to fight in World War I at the Battle of Gallipoli: many of the dead were in this train which caught fire due to escaped gas from the archaic gas lighting in the carriages. The cause of the crash was attributed to a catastrophic signalman's error, but Neil examines whether there were other contributory factors and whether there was a cover-up to prevent investigation of them, making convenient scapegoats of the signalmen.
